HYDRO-SEEDING

WHAT IS HYDRO-SEEDING?

Hydro seeding also called Hydro-mulching, Hydro seedingis the process of planting seed down to the soil by ejecting it through a high-pressure nozzle. Along with the seed, finely ground wood fiber mulch, fertilizer, and bonding agents are added to the slurry to provide the best possible growing conditions. Hydro seeding has a wide variety of uses including erosion control, turf establishment, wild flower planting, habitat management...

BENEFITS

If planting a relatively large area, hydro-seeding can be completed in a very short period of time. It is very effective for hillsides and sloped areas to help with erosion control and quick coverage. Hydro-seeding will typically cost less than planting with sod, but more than broadcast seeding; however, results are often quicker with high germination rates producing grass growth in about a week and maintenance beginning around 3 to 4 weeks from the date of application. The 100% wood fiber mulch we use accelerates the growing process by maintaining moisture and nutrients around the seeds thereby increasing the rate of germination.

COST

Hydro-seeding is the most affordable method for projects over 4,000 sq ft competitive down to about 1,000 sq ft (or 2 pallets of sod). This is a result of simplifying the process; instead of growing, weeding, fertilizing, and shipping the product to you the seed is started on site. Think of getting frozen pizzas for a dinner party vs getting a pizza chef who brings fresh ingredients and creates custom gourmet pizzas for the party. In some cases, seeding by hand may be cheaper, but hydro seeding has a much higher germination rate. This means more grass faster with less water or more bang for your buck!
The average cost for hydro seeding in the southwest is 14 cents per square foot with discounts if you are covering a large amount of land.
